Authorities in Lakes state say medical supplies have been overstretched in Rumbek Hospital due to the increasing number of wounded soldiers.

The state Minister of Information said about 60 SPLA soldiers are recovering from injuries and gunshot wounds at the hospital.

Marik Nanga Marik said there are not enough medical supplies and surgeons to treat the wounded soldiers.

“The wounded people need medical supplies that treat the wounds, but now because the number is huge, it is difficult,” he stressed.

“We are struggling and we also have problem with the shortage of surgeons to deal with such a big number.”

Mr. Marik said the National ministry of Health has been notified about the situation of the soldiers and their medical needs.

He said most of the soldiers were flown in from Mayom County in Unity state, after clashes between the government forces and the SPLA-in Opposition forces two weeks ago.
