The Special Envoy of the Sudanese paramilitary group – Rapid Support Forces said Wednesday their troops were not behind the attack on the South Sudan embassy in Khartoum, last month.
The South Sudan Embassy in Khartoum was among dozens of foreign embassies either shelled in the crossfire, attacked, or looted throughout the bitter fighting.
On April 28, 2023, the government announced the relocation of staff from the embassy in Khartoum after it was partly hit by an artillery shell.
Meanwhile, RSF Special Envoy Yousif Ezat said his group has learned about several embassies being attacked at one time by forces wearing the paramilitary uniform.
Speaking to the press in Juba on Wednesay, Ezat said their forces are not the ones vandalizing and attacking embassies
“I want to tell you something that was witnessed, not only the embassy of South Sudan, but all the western embassies or most of it was attacked at one time by forces wearing the uniform of Rapid Support Forces,” Ezat said in Juba after meeting President Salva Kiir.
“We received calls with complains of that our forces attacked embassies because am in communications with embassies, I communicated with our commanders and because am not a soldier, but politician I raised the complaint to them about these incidents.”
The diplomat representing the Sudanese militia group said those impersonating their forces were found to be members of the Sudanese military intelligence – an allegation Eye Radio could not verify.
He adds: “Rapid support forces don’t have any tendency to attack embassies, but if any outlawed criminals from rapid support forces did this, they will be accounted for and returned back all the properties to the owners.”
Envoy Yousif Ezat further said General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo is in full support of the IGAD peace process led by President Kiir.
The Envoy said the Leader of Rapid Support Forces, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo is ready to observe ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, and calling on General Burhan to reciprocate.
