RPF acceptance to bring about financial aid – FM

The government says the acceptance of the deployment of the Regional Protection Force will enable the international community and financial institutions to bail out South Sudan from the current economic crisis.

The remark comes days after the transitional government announced its readiness for the deployment.

In September this year, the UN Security Council approved a force of 4000 troops, with a mandate to use all necessary means to protect civilians and key installations in Juba.

The government gave its consent, but issues such as the armament and the contributing countries were yet to be discussed.

Last week, the government announced all issues had been resolved and was ready for the deployment.

Foreign Minister Deng Alor Akol says the approval will allow regional countries, members of the internationally community and financial institutions to” begin to deal with us – to bail us out”.

“So I’m very helpful that the situation will improve; I want to appeal to our people to be optimistic and hopeful and reconcile among themselves, because this country belongs to all of us,” the minister told Eye Radio Thursday.

Economists say the current financial situation in South Sudan is characterized by the scarcity of the US dollars and the weakening value of the pound.

According to the Deputy Minister of Finance, civil servants are to be paid this week their salaries for September.
