Over 20 civil society organizations have condemned hostilities and violence meted out against civilians along major roads across the country.

The group under the ‘Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce’ for the implementation of the peace agreement condemned particularly ethnically motivated killings of civilians on Juba- Nimule, and Juba-Yei roads.

The alliance says these attacks have made it difficult for civilians to move freely and have increased the suffering of women and children.

“It is so unfortunate and it is a very difficult moment for us as South Sudanese, and we do not want to see a repeat of this situation, and that is why we are speaking out,” said Rajab Mohandis, member.

He said all parties should observe a ceasefire, protect and allow free movement of civilians.

Mr Mohandis also says the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism should investigate and hold accountable, groups accused of carrying out attacks on civilians.

“As a civil society, we will not cease to call for justice for the victims.”

The Civil Society taskforce also calls for unrestricted movement of ceasefire monitors.
