The Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority has called for the urgent repair of the Juba-Nimule Road, saying its poor condition is slowing the movement of goods and affecting revenue collection.

The Juba-Nimule Road, built in 2011, is the country’s main trade corridor, through which most imported goods enter South Sudan from East African countries, including Uganda.

However, the road has deteriorated over the years without significant repairs.

Speaking in Nimule after inspecting the border town, Commissioner General Moun Deng Ajuet said delays in the movement of trucks are slowing revenue collection.

“One of the most important issues I will report is the condition of the Juba-Nimule Road. It needs rehabilitation. Repairing the road will improve the movement of trucks, vehicles and goods. The sooner we do it, the more revenue we will collect,” he said.

He said potholes and damaged sections of the road need urgent rehabilitation to improve the movement of trucks and boost revenue collection at the border.

“As you can see, trucks take a long time to travel to Juba and back to Nimule. That means we are collecting revenue very slowly,” he added.
