A three-day conference organized by advocacy organizations to promote peaceful coexistence between the host community and Sudanese Refugees in Wudweil in Northern Bahr el Ghazal concluded on Monday.

This followed the death of nine people in the state capital during violent protests by angry youth who attacked Sudanese-owned shops on 16th January – in an apparent reprisal for the chilling footages that surfaced online of South Sudanese civilians killed by the Sudanese army in Wad Madani.

The Sudanese junta has formed a committee that was already sworn in to investigate the atrocities, according the head of committee, Yassir Bashir Al-Bukhari who is First Assistant to the country’s Attorney General.

Addressing the ceremony, NBGs Minister of Peace Building Abour Gordon Nhial reminded the country that the state has been conciliatory and hospitable to refugees including those fleeing war-torn Sudan.

Ms. Abour encouraged the host community and the displaced to continue enduring peace and unity among them.

She revealed that the training aims to promote peace and unity among the host community and Sudanese Refugees in the Wedwill Refugees resettlement camp.

The minister assured the refugees that the government and partners will continue to support people who fled the war in Sudan and are camped across the state.

“Our main agenda is peace, especially knowing that peace is very expensive. Last two days, we were together with the community of Wudweil, but today we are here with them,” he said.

“My appeal to our community from outside, let them not exaggerate the wrong reports. Our refugees here are living peacefully with us here. I gave many examples, that’s why the government decided to send people to this area.”

Meanwhile, Wudweil Refugees Chairperson Abdallah Abulmana Ali, thanked the state government and host community for their acceptance for promoting peaceful co-existence between the host community and the refugees.
