Pupils avoid school due to lack of feeding program in Gogrial

Pupils in Gogrial West County, Warap state, are unable to study because of lack of a feeding program in schools.

The County Commissioner said most of the children fail to turn up for classes because of hunger.

Commissioner Makuac Arou Luach told Eye Radio that families in the County are not able to feed children because of last year’s floods that destroyed most of the crops.

He said the cost of living has skyrocketed.

“When we talk directly to the humanitarian organizations that are supposed to support the community, many humanitarian organizations say they and the government are focusing on the issue of security and issues of displacement in the states which were affected by the war,” Mr Arou claimed.

“They’ve forgotten about the areas which were affected by floods last year.

The community is now facing a very big hunger in the area. They have no seeds to cultivate and they don’t have food to eat.”

Commissioner Makuach said that the schools in the County may be closed down if the situation doesn’t improve.
