The Minister of Public Service Dak Duop said his institution has no official vehicles, a situation that he said could have left him and his deputy walking on foot, had it not been for the fact that he has a private car.

Dak Duop Bichiok claimed that his ministry is being ignored and revealed that neither him nor his undersecretary have access to official vehicles.

According to him, it took two years for the deputy minister to receive a vehicle following their appointment.

Venting his frustration, Minister Duop stressed that the Ministry of Public Service and Human Resources doesn’t get much attention, even though it’s an important institution.

“Our people are ignoring public service, and this is very difficult. If you are not supported, you will not play a good role. This is very strange in South Sudan,” he said.

“Currently, in public service, we don’t have cars; the minister has no car, let alone the other officials. The minister does not have a car. I’m using my own car, and the rest do not even have one, not even the undersecretary.”

“The Deputy Minister was given a car two years after his appointment. If he were to be dismissed before being given a car, he would have been moving on foot without anything, going home empty-handed because there are no benefits for ministers.”

The Ministry of Public Service manages and develops the country’s public service sector and human resources.

It’s also mandated to develop policies and strategies related to public service administration, human resource management, and workforce development to ensure effective governance and public service delivery.

Other tasks include the recruitment, training, deployment, and performance evaluation of civil servants across various government ministries, departments, and agencies.
