Unity State
Prices of goods in Unity State markets have risen drastically, an official has said.
Unity is one of the states that have been affected by the conflict that erupted in 2013.
The state Minister of Information, Peter Makuth says the economic situation in the state has worsened.
“But there is nothing people can do; there is no alternative, prices are really extremely high. For example: 500ml water bottle which costs 2 pounds in Juba is sold at 15 pounds,” Mr Makuth said.
“It’s really a crazy situation, you cannot talk of sugar; a cup of tea in Bentiu costs 10 pound.”
The UN says since the outbreak of the conflict in South Sudan in December 2013, continuing insecurity have hampered the delivery of food and other essential items to conflict affected areas including Unity State.
