Presidential guard killed in a Juba shootout

Presidential press secretary Ateny Wek Ateny says a presidential guard’s officer was among the three people killed in a shootout at Tijaria suburb in Juba yesterday.

Mr Ateny says an unknown gunman shot the officer along with a sergeant in the national security service.

He says the gunman was wounded in the shooting and died later in the hospital.

“We are paying our condolences to the families of the martyrs who were martyred yesterday. They were killed by unknown suspect,” Mr Ateny told Eye Radio.

The unnamed presidential guard was off-duty when the incident occurred. Mr Ateny says the two officers were not on official duty when the incident happened.

Mr Ateny says investigation is going on to establish the cause of the shooting.
