President Salva Kiir and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a sideline meeting at the General Assembly in New York where they discussed the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and the 2022 Roadmap.
According to a statement posted by Kiir’s office, the UN Chief reiterated the importance of conducting credible elections in South Sudan in December 2024.
The meeting also discussed the country’s progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, says the statement.
Kiir and Guterres further discussed the impacts of the conflict in the Sudan, on South Sudan, the sustainability of humanitarian assistance and coordinated regional and international endeavors to end the conflict.
Secretary-General Guterres reportedly commended South Sudan’s efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan.
