President Salva Kiir has reportedly assured opposition parties of his commitment to freedom of assembly, and the right of political parties to carry out their activities.
In a meeting with officials of opposition parties on Thursday, including the SPLM-DC, President Kiir said the parties should carry out their programs without intimidation.
The leader of the minority in the national assembly and official of the SPLM-DC, Honorable Onyoti Adigo said President Kiir also restated his amnesty to the leader of the SPLM-DC, Doctor Lam Akol.
Hon. Onyoti said there is a need for continued democratic transformation in the country.
“We think that there is a need for the President to declare the activities of all political parties, including the SPLM-DC in the states,” said Mr. Adigo, “and the SPLM-DC will be now operating freely in the country without any objection or hindrance of the work of political parties.”
Honorable Onyoti said that all political parties have a role to play in resolving problems affecting the country, if their freedom is guaranteed by the state.
