Police Spokesperson Daniel Justin addresses the media. (SSNPS/Facebook).

The National Police Spokesperson has called on the public to report any harassment or extortion from unscrupulous police personnel using the emergency number 112.

Major General Justin was answering questions from reporters on allegations that some officers forced members of the public to pay cash as ransom for their detained loved ones.

The police spokesperson urged the public to report such dishonest acts from police personnel to the nearest police stations.

“We do not know of these violations, and logically there is no regular force that can act in this way because we, as a regular force, work under instructions and directives,” said Justin.

“If such violations occur by some members of the police, citizens in residential neighbourhoods should not pay money to them. Rather, they should report to the nearest police station and report the site of the accident or call the emergency number 112.”

“We have a department specialized in monitoring the behaviour of police personnel, and the sooner the incident is reported, the response will be fast.”
