PLP on creation of 28 states

Author : | Published: Monday, October 5, 2015

The 28 states the President Salva Kiir has created will be expensive to maintain, the People’s Liberal Party has said.

In a republican order issued on Friday, the President split the 10 states into 28.

The chairperson of the PLP, Peter Mayen, told Eye Radio that the country will face a lot of challenges in terms of re-establishing the states, but described creation of the states as effective.

“This kind of system of governance is actually the most deliberate system; at the time, it’s the most expensive system,” Mr Mayen stated.

“At least now people in the grassroots, in the counties will be able to get services in terms of health and education.”

On Friday, the leader of the SPLM in Opposition, Dr Riek Machar, said the creation of more states was a violation of the peace agreement.
