The Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Gola Boyoi Gola, says South Sudan’s leaders face difficult decisions that could have a direct impact on the lives of citizens as the country approaches elections and the end of the transitional period.

Gola made the remarks on Monday during a National Prayer Day service at the Presbyterian Church in Pibor, organized by the Council of Churches to mark the International Day of Peace.

“The decisions our leaders are making will impact the lives of every citizen. These are not easy decisions, these are hard decisions that will either affect the lives of South Sudanese negatively or positively. That is why this day is so important.”

The service brought together church leaders, government officials and community members for prayers for peace, unity, reconciliation and stability in Pibor and across South Sudan.

Prayers also focused on the upcoming December 22 elections, with worshippers calling for a peaceful, transparent and orderly electoral process.

Gola said South Sudan is at a crossroads as the country prepares for the elections and the transitional period draws to a close.

He acknowledged the challenges surrounding the elections, saying they make the church’s call for a national day of prayer particularly important.

The Greater Pibor administrator called on church leaders and citizens to pray for wisdom for the country’s leaders as they make decisions that will shape the nation’s future.

He also urged South Sudanese to continue praying for peace, forgiveness and blessings for the country.
