Peace parties to graduate unified forces in Upper Nile Nov 21

The peace parties have scheduled the graduation of ten thousand more necessary unified forces in the Upper Nile State next week on Monday, November 21, 2022.

Peace Minister, Stephen Par Kuol revealed this after meeting with the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak yesterday.

According to Par Kuol, the candidates are mainly from the police and army, adding that all the necessary preparations to pass them out have been completed.

The unity government held the first graduation ceremony on 30 August for the Necessary Unified Forces in Central Equatoria.

The 21,973 unified forces comprised 3,308 VIP protection soldiers, 4,366 police personnel: 6,315 national security officers, and 1,120 prison personnel.

While about 3,575 personnel would take charge of the National Wildlife Service; 3,289 to be deployed to the National Civil Defense Service.

The second phase was held in the greater Bahr el Ghazal in which over twelve thousand graduated in Wau town two weeks ago.

The 2018 revitalized peace deal expects the unity government to graduate 83,000 unified forces drawn from the various parties to take charge of security during the ongoing transitional period.

But the peace government’s plan is to first graduate and deploy more than 52,000 forces before embarking on the next phase.
