The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs raised urgent concerns in the Council of Ministers regarding the welfare of Members of Parliament after three lawmakers died in one month, according to the Minister of Information.
In her presentation, Mary Nawai highlighted the urgent need for better accommodation and healthcare services for MPs, pointing to the troubling frequency of legislators dying from health-related issues.
She stressed the importance of addressing these challenges, particularly the critical health concerns, and called for special consideration to improve MPs’ well-being.
The untimely deaths of three lawmakers in one week have sparked serious discussions about the poor living conditions and limited access to medical care for MPs.
The Council of Ministers is set to further discuss the issue and explore potential measures to improve the situation.
“The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs has presented a concern in the council of ministries on Friday in terms of accommodation, in terms of health services, especially she stressed much on the health aspect of especially of the MPs who are almost dying now and then,” Makuei stated.
“Mary Nawai requested that there should be a special consideration for these people,” Makuei told the media after the council meeting on Friday.
This month alone, three legislators have passed away in Juba, including Hellen Kamisa Mursale, Maker Thiong, and Mukhtar Ismail Mathew.
