The national legislative assembly adjourned an extraordinary sitting on Thursday to allow the lawmakers to join the state in mourning the death of Lt. Gen. Alfred Akwoch.

The announcement to adjourn the sitting was made by the clerk of the August house during the seating.

The spokesperson of the national legislature John Agan described the late Akwoch as one of the liberators who deserved to be honored by the August house.

“The leadership of the national legislative assembly thought it wise that it is better to join the state in celebrating his life because he is somebody who has fought for a number of years, he is a liberator,” said Hon. Agany.

“What has remained unsigned was this constitutional making process together with wildlife conservation bills today [Thursday] were supposed to treat these bills.”

The parliament was supposed to pass the constitution-making process bill today for the second time.

The first reading was passed in absence of some of the peace partners.

The bill is expected to provide for the establishment of the legal framework to govern the process of the permanent constitution-making process.

It also aims at creating a permanent structure for the country that will pave the way for the conduct of general elections by the end of the transitional period.
