The family of the detained Secretary-General of the SPLM, Pagan Amum is calling for his release so he can take part in negotiations.
Banguat Amum Okeich, the sister of Pagan, who left the SPLM mainstream and joined Dr. Riek Machar’s group said she is not sure of the health of her brother in detention because he has been denied all rights.
Honorable Banguat said she believes her brother Pagan is not an enemy to the President but he is against the system within the SPLM:
“Somebody like Pagan, Kiir should feel that this is somebody who can help him, not somebody who is his enemy.  Pagan never thought that he would be an enemy to President Salva Kiir, but he has been telling him openly the way they can lead the country and he helped the President a lot and our people know this very well, but if the President thinks that Pagan is danger for him, I think he is not dangerous for him, but Pagan can help him with the situation in which our country is now where the country is seen as a failed state. ”
Honorable Banguat Amum said she believes if Pagan is released and becomes part of the negotiations, he will help the two parties resolve the current crisis in the country.
Pagan Amum was the former Chief Negotiator of the Government of South Sudan in the peace talks with the Government of Sudan on post-independence issues.
He was detained together with other ten senior members of the SPLM following what the government said was an attempted coup, foiled by the army on 15th December last year.

Seven of the eleven detainees were released last week, but Pagan and other three members are still in detention, charged of treason.
