A new oil facility will be opened in Palouch oilfields next month to increase daily production, the Minister of Petroleum has announced.

The new project, dubbed Bottle Neck, is aimed at “increasing the oil production” in wells operated by the Dar Petroleum Operating Company.

Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth says production will also resume in December in the former Unity State, where some facilities were destroyed during the conflict which began in December 2013.

“For us to operationalize the resumption of oil there, we are actually tentatively thinking, by December things are going to change in Unity state and the production resumption will start in Unity state,” Mr Gatkuoth told reporters during a visit to Palouch on Wednesday.

Currently, Palouch oilfields are producing 130,000 barrels per day.
