The official launch of the departure of the Ugandan forces from South Sudan will take place tomorrow at the Juba International Airport, SPLA Spokesperson Col Philip Aguer has said.

The UPDF Forces were deployed in South Sudan in 2013, after the outbreak of conflict between the government and the opposition led by former vice president Dr Riek Machar.

Colonel Aguer says the forces constitute one brigade.

He says they were deployed in three bases; Juba International Airport, in an area near Nesitu, and in Bor, Jonglei state.

Colonel Aguer says the UPDF forces that left Bor yesterday will converge in Juba.

“They have already started arranging logistical support; how they will be transporting their equipment and their troops,” Col Aguer said.

The withdrawal of the Ugandan forces is part of the implementation of the peace process.

All foreign forces are supposed to leave the country to ensure smooth implementation, according to the peace agreement signed in August 2015.
