An official says at least 48 people have been killed and 43 others wounded in an attack on Tonj North County of Warrap state, over the weekend.

The State Deputy Governor of Warrap State, Aketch Tong Aleu claims that forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar raided cattle in four villages of Tonj North County.

“The group from rebel mobilized themselves and directed their forces to an area call Lou Ariik in Tonj North County where the cattle were located. They attacked four villages which are called Tamagro, Koungdit, Kounty and Wounriang”, he told Eye Radio.

Aketch Tong Aleu said that security personnel have recovered all the cattle and reportedly captured over 200 weapons, including AKMs and some KPMs.

“Those locations were grazing areas. We have almost forty eight people killed from those cattle camps, and then we have forty three wounded -these are the casualties”, he added.

Mr. Aketch said the wounded are receiving treatment at Wau Teaching Hospital.

He said those with serious wounds have been transferred to Juba Teaching Hospital.
