The National Security Service (NSS) has dismissed as “fake and unofficial” documents circulating on social media that allegedly summoned several government officials for questioning over matters related to corruption.
In a press statement Monday, the agency debunked summons dated 30th January 2025 – and addressed to several constitutional post holders – purportedly being asked to appear before the security agency’s Anti-Corruption Security Division.
David John Kumuri, Director of Public Relations at the Internal Security Bureau – National Security Service (ISB-NSS), said the documents are designed to mislead the public and tarnish the institution’s image.
“As a matter of necessity and clarity, the document in question is entirely fake and unofficial, designed principally to mislead and tarnish the image of the service,” he said.
Mr. Kumuri still reaffirmed the agency’s legal mandate under Section 13 of the NSS Act, 2024 (as amended), which allows it to summon, investigate, and take statements from suspects and potential witnesses.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the Internal Security Bureau’s Anti-Corruption Security Division did issue summons to suspects for questioning, but clarified that those were not government officials.
Mr. Kumuri claimed “the document was leaked to the public by enemies of the state with motive to create internal division among leaders.”
The official said the agency has launched an internal investigation into what he called a “leak”, leading to the arrest of several individuals who are currently in detention.
He stated that efforts were underway to detect and counter any disruptive activities from individuals or groups, whether inside or outside South Sudan.
