The Government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has called on the national government to investigate the killing of dozens of civilians in Khor Kaltan and ensure those responsible face justice.

In a statement issued on March 30, the Office of the Governor in Aweil condemned the incident, which occurred on March 28 in the Jebel Iraq area of Central Equatoria State. The victims included citizens from Aweil and other regions of the country.

State authorities described the attack as a violation of human life and a threat to national stability. The government emphasized that targeting civilians is unacceptable and requires full accountability to restore public confidence in the rule of law.

“Accountability is essential to deliver justice for victims and deter future violence,” the statement noted.

The state government extended condolences to the bereaved families and all affected communities. It further reaffirmed its commitment to working with national institutions to ensure perpetrators do not escape justice and to strengthen civilian protection nationwide.
