The state government, traders, and well-wishers in Northern Bahr el Ghazal have donated food and non-food items to returnees and refugees who fled the conflict in Sudan.

This is according to the governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Tong Akeen Ngor.

He told reporters that traders from Sudan, Eritrea, Somali, and South Sudan in the state contributed the relief items to support the displaced.

The collection made during a fund-raising event yesterday in Aweil town includes one-point-nine million South Sudanese Pounds; thirty 100-kilogram bags of maize flour; four, 50-kilogram bags of sugar and clothes.

Meanwhile, the state government donated 100 sacks of maize flour, each weighing 100 kilograms.

Governor Tong Akeen Ngor says the state government will dispatch the donated items to the refugees and returnees.

“I want to thank traders of the Sudanese community and Eritrean community and also our national traders who are here in Northern Bahr el Ghazal for their big financial and kind support which they have given,” said Governor Tong.

“They [well-wishers] have donated shelters materials and clothes for women and children, from tomorrow those materials will be given out to those returnees and refugees,

“The state government also has given its support of 100 bags of corn flour, and this will be added to what those traders have donated,

“This evening we will assemble everything and tomorrow morning all these cars will move with the team of state officials and members of the high commission.”

Over 2,700 refugees and 1, 550 returnees arrived last weekend from Sudan in Kiir Adem of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.

Early this week, Sudanese refugees from the Darfur region appealed to the government of South Sudan and humanitarian organizations for relief assistance.
