A religious leader in Wonduruba Administrative Payam under the office of Central Equatoria governor has reported a significant restoration of calm in the area following a period of unrest.
Locals in Wonduruba are recovering from the aftermath of series of killing between October and November last year.
The victims were mainly youth, women and the elderly.
“Ten people, including, Chief and his wife plus his younger daughter was killed. The incident had for sure inflicted pains in people.
“As you might know since 2015, Wonduruba did not realize genuine peace and freedom and these history is still repeating itself”, Bishop Taban told Eye Radio on Friday.
However, retired Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Wonduruba Diocese, Martin Taban Peter, expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the church in fostering peace in the area.
“It is hard to believe that this was the Wonduruba who had terrible incident. People are many in the church and shops are operating, and people are celebrating. The atmosphere is nice.”
Bishop Taban urged the locals to contribute positively to this sustained tranquility and work together towards building a prosperous community.
“Within Wonduruba center many people who had left came back to the center there. The center is filled with people”, he added.
On December 1st, an investigation committee formed by Central Equatoria State governor launched an investigation into the incident.
The committee was tasked to complete the probe within two weeks.
This means the investigation period elapsed in mid-December and the findings yet to be made public.
