At least 18 people were killed in clashes between the Dinka Ngok and the Misseriya in Abyei on Sunday, says an official.

An official from the Abyei area administration, John Ajang, said two other people were wounded in the fighting.

Mr. Ajang told Eye Radio today that the fighting took place north of Abyei town.

“We lost more than 18 inside of Dinka Ngok and two wounded were wounded,” said Mr Ajang.

“We’ve a joint security committee and we have formed a security committee at level of payam and Boma to report any threat, any kind of movement.”

Mr. Ajang called on the government of South Sudan to revisit the issue of the formation of the Abyei Area Administration and the deployment of police to protect civilians.
