The newly appointed Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Changkuoth Bichok, has pledged to prioritize disadvantaged students in the government’s scholarship program.

Speaking at his reception ceremony, Bichok said his administration will uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

He also stressed the need to renovate public universities across the country to improve learning conditions and meet modern educational standards.

“We shall uphold the highest standard Integrity, Transparency, accountability and professionalism in all work that we will do. I am aware that there need for renovation of our universities and when you see you feel like there is something wrong, and these are some of the challenges that we need to work on,” he said.

The minister said his ministry will develop mechanisms to ensure disadvantaged students are given priority in the allocation of government scholarships.

” The issue of scholarships, we need to sit and put mechanisms to ensure the disadvantaged students are prioritized such that they get these opportunities,” he pledged.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology is responsible for overseeing and regulating post-secondary education.

It formulates policies, coordinates tertiary institutions, promotes scientific research, and ensures educational standards meet national and international requirements.
