NBGS chief whip suspended

Author : | Published: Tuesday, April 28, 2015

The assembly in Northern Bahr al-Ghazal State has suspended its government chief whip, Upuothmalo Pirjuak.

MPs accused him of continuing to be loyal to the former caretaker governor, Kuel Aguer Kuel.

They say Mr Pirjuak failed to lead the SPLM members in impeaching Kuel Aguer.

“He is the government chief whip; he is supposed to be the one leading and convincing the members to support the SPLM motions,” Achak Thiep, speaker of the state assembly.

Mr Pirjuak was also accused of ‘misleading SPLM members against their party’s resolution and decisions’.

However, Mr Pirjuak has denied the allegations. He insists that he is still the legal government chief whip of the assembly.

“I was appointed by the caretaker governor by decree, and if they need, I will be relieved by the same caretaker governor again by another decree but NOT MPs in constitution,” he argued.

“They don’t have right to do it and up to now, I am still the government chief whip.”

The assembly has nominated the former deputy, Deng Nguac, as the chief whip.
