280 police officers have graduated in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State after attending a four-month course on professionalism in dealing with civilians.
The state police spokesperson Captain Guot Guot Akol says the graduating police force includes four officers, 92 female personnel, and 184 male personnel.
They were also trained on ethics, crime scene management, and the rights of suspects under detention in the state capital Aweil.
The training focused on upgrading the officers’ basic knowledge of human rights while maintaining law and order in the local communities.
In a statement extended to Eye Radio this morning, Captain Akol said the course started on January 15th and ended on Monday.
“On Monday 15, we graduated the first badge consisting of 280 including 4 police officers and 92 female police personnel that were under refresher training for four months,” Akol said.
“The reason of conducting this refresher course is for police officers and other ranks to build their capacity and refresh laws and regulations.”
“It’s also meant to demonstrate the professionalism and ethics of professionals when dealing with the citizens as well as protecting the rights and respect to human dignity.”
The course also covered issues like the mandate of law enforcement officers, community policing, criminal investigation, human rights during detention and policing, and the rights of children.
The police official said the training is targeting at least 800 police officers and other ranks from all counties, Payams and Bomas.
