The South Sudan National Police Service has promised to ensure that the Christmas and New Year celebrations are peaceful.

Police Spokesperson Col. John Kassara Koang said security forces are ready to safeguard public safety in churches, public places, airport, roads and bridges among others.

Kasara did not reveal the number of security forces being deployed for the holidays but only assured that there will be safe and sound celebrations.

“The objectives of the security plan during Christmas are ensuring the safety of individuals attending Christmas events and gatherings, and protection of people’s lives and their properties during the holiday season,” he said.

He added that other plans are to provide security protection for Churches and other celebrating gathering places and prevent thefts or vandalism of decoration, gifts and properties during the holiday season.

“We will also provide a secure environment for shoppers and busy retain areas and coordinate with local law enforcements to respond to any security incidents.”

Col. Kasara also said it is further implementing measures to protect against cyber threats such as scam targeting online shoppers.
