National parliament set to reopen

The Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly is due to reopen Monday morning after a three-month recess elapsed.

According to an announcement, dated March 23rd, shared with Eye Radio’s newsroom, the reopening will take place at 10:00 AM at the Freedom Hall, adjacent to the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum.

The lawmakers went on recess on December 15, 2022.

“The Administration of the Transitional National Legislature has the pleasure to cordially convey to all honorable Members of the Legislature that the Inauguration of the Transitional National Legislature for the year 2023 is scheduled to place on Monday,” the statement read.

The letter requested the lawmakers to attend what it calls a national occasion while inviting all the media houses for its coverage.

The parliament is expected to deliberate key bills in the coming months to expedite the implementation of the peace agreement.

These include the permanent constitution-making process, the Elections Act, and National Security Bills, among others.
