The National Salvation Front has denied accusations that its forces carried out the June 5 attack on the Anglican Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Morobo County.

Bishop Amos Data Elinama was ambushed and dragged out of his car along Morobo-Kaya road, according to the Archbishop of the Central Equatoria Episcopal Church Internal Province.

Bishop Paul Yugusuk alleged the attackers were elements of General Thomas Cirillo’s NAS forces.

The armed assailants dragged Bishop Elinama into a nearby bush and robbed his personal belongings including his priestly attire.

However, the man of God was reportedly left unhurt.

Reacting to the allegations, NAS denied that the act was committed by its forces.

In a press statement, Colonel Emmanuel Yungule Thomas, the spokesperson of the armed group described the accusation as baseless and unfounded.

“The accusation by the commissioner is a cover-up for the atrocities being committed on civilians in South Sudan and a cheap propaganda against NAS,” Yungule said.

He said the area where the church vehicle was attacked is not under their control.
