Residents of Mundri West County are fleeing their homes after heavy shooting in the area last evening, says the Commissioner.
The area army commander earlier unidentified gunmen had attacked an army vehicle.
They exchanged fire and caused panic to civilians in the town.
“Yes you know I was away, I heard shooting in the town and then I asked the commander he said there was a group of people who ambushed the vehicle or who start to shoot the army vehicles….they fled, nobody is in the town, and all of them are in the bush,” Mr. Hassan Bakhit said, adding that they were still waiting for a full report on the incident from the army.
“People are still in the bushes, because in the town you cannot see people moving, only some few.”
Mr. Bakhit says they are yet to know the amount of damage caused during the heavy shooting.
Meanwhile, the SPLA spokesperson told Eye Radio this morning, the army barracks in Mundri Town came under attack by unknown gunmen.
He said the government forces were not behind a shooting in the area that took place last evening.
“I don’t think SPLA can attack towns, this is something not true. The attacks in Lui and those areas it can’t be by the army and this need an investigation and if the county’s authorities it saying the attacks was by the SPLA forces, this need a report or investigation about what happen.
