Mundri man to serve 10 years for sexual assault on 14-year-old girl

The Mobile Court in Mundri West County has sentenced a man to prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Samuel Abu John Douglas, 26, will spend the next 10 years behind bars for molesting the girl on 23th of March this year.

The special court was told the convict held the teenage girl in his room against her will, then he sexually assaulted her twice.

Mr. Abu John pleaded guilty and argued that he was in a relationship with the girl.

The presiding Judge Andrew Joshua Lado, found Mr. Abu John guilty for violating section 26 of the Child Right Act of 2008.

He was found guilty under section 247 of South Sudan Penal Code Act 2008.

“Convict Samuel Abu John Douglas, I sentence you with the following; Imprisonment for 10 years affected from the date of his arrest on 29\3\2022. Under the provision section 247 of penal act 2008. The convict must pay 500.000 SSP as restitution to be paid through civil procedures. Seal under my hand at Mundri Mobil court. Judge Andrew Joshua Lado,” Judge Andrew Joshua read the court’s decision on Friday.

Section 26 of the Child Act 2008 says every female child has a right to be protected from sexual abuse and exploitation and gender-based violence, including rape, incest, early and forced marriage, female circumcision and female genital mutilation.
