MPs in the National Assembly have asked the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank to appear in parliament on Wednesday to discuss the economic crisis.

The Chairperson of the Information Committee, Hon Oliver Morri, says the Committee of Finance and Economy will be presenting findings of an ad hoc team that was formed to analyze the situation.

Hon Mori says bank governor Kornellio Koryom must attend personally while Finance Minister, Deng Athorbei, who is on an official trip, could be represented by one of his deputies.

“It is important that they attend the sitting on Wednesday because there are going to be a lot of queries from the honorable members which can only be clarified by the two institutions,” he said.

In December last year, the Minister of Finance and the Central Bank Governor abandoned the fixed rate of pounds against all foreign currencies and left it to be determined by market demand and supply.

Since then, prices of basic commodities have been rising.
