More devastating rains expected across the country – IGAD warns

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development has warned that South Sudan is likely to experience moderate rainfall over the next week.

The new rainfall forecast published on Monday stated that average rainfall between 50 – 100 mm is expected over the eastern and western parts of South Sudan between 17 – 24 August.

Heavy to very heavy rainfalls are expected over parts of northern Ethiopia, western Eritrea, and eastern Sudan.

Moderate temperatures between 20 to 32 degree-celsius are also expected in the southern part of South Sudan.

IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre advised authorities and the public in these areas to take the appropriate measures to protect lives and livelihoods.

In recent weeks, torrential rains have disrupted livelihoods in several parts of South Sudan including Jonglei, Lakes, parts of Central and Western Equatoria states.
