The civil society group, South Sudanese Network for Democracy and Elections, is urging the citizens to monitor the 2014 /2015 budget process.

The National Parliament approved 11.3 billion Pounds as the budget for the fiscal year 2014/2015 two weeks ago.

The budget prioritized agriculture, road construction, assistance to states affected by the conflict, funding Constituency Development projects and payment of arrears.

The Executive Director of SSUNDE, Ijjo Elias, says citizens should hold their MPs accountable in the budget process.

He was speaking at a four – day participatory workshop on budget monitoring and public expenditure, funded by Justice Africa.

“The citizens should understand that the National Budget process right from the draft, the implementation and the monitoring part of it,” said Mr Elias.

“The National members of parliament will be able to inform them about how the budget has been drafted and also the implementation part of it and the monitoring part of it is very important for them to hold their members of parliament accountable for all these processes.”

The workshop brought together members of civil society, government officials and the representatives of the private sector.
