The National Minister of Livestock and Fisheries says commercializing the livestock sector has the potential to generate significant revenue for the country.

Minister Onyoti Adigo noted that South Sudan is home to approximately 36 million livestock, underscoring the need for effective management and care of this vital resource.

He added that 70% of the people in the country rely on livestock for their livelihood.

“The ministry of livestock is one of the important ministries which had generated revenue to the country, about 70% of our people are living on livestock. We have approximately 36 million livestock in the country which need to be looked after. We also think if we commercialized it we will look ahead,” he said.

Minister Onyoti spoke on the state media SSBC after a meeting with the vice president for the economic cluster, Dr. James Wani Igga.

“He visited the ministry of livestock and fisheries to see what did we do and what challenges we are facing. He has come to see the situation of the ministry and we had a brief meeting with him and the staff,” he explained.
