The Ministry of Health is urging people to maintain good hygiene to prevent the spread of cholera in the Country.

Last week, the Ministry reported a decrease in cholera cases in Juba teaching hospital.

Over one thousand seven hundred cases have been reported with 37 deaths since the outbreak in mid-May.

The Director General for International Health, Doctor Lul Riek, told journalist in Juba today that despite the progress made, many people are still at risk of cholera due to poor hygiene and sanitation.

“We still have a problem of people’s attitude that when we ask them to wash before you prepare your food or before you eat, they are in a hurry; they want just to eat and they do not want to wash their hands,” said Dr Riek.

Dr Lul said suspected cholera cases have also been reported in Mundri, Nimule and Torit hospitals.

He urges citizens to dig and use pit latrines. And immediately report cholera suspected cases to the nearest cholera treatment centers.

Cholera is spread through water contaminated with feces.
