Machar’s failure to return risks further conflict – Troika

Author : | Published: Saturday, April 23, 2016

The United States, United Kingdom and Norway have expressed disappointment over the failure of Dr Riek Machar to return to Juba.

The First Vice President is expected to arrive in the country today according to a proposal by members of the international community.

The three countries also known as Troika say theĀ failure of Dr Machar to come and form a transitional government of national unity represents a willful decision not to abide by his commitments to implement the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.

The Troika says the failure places the people of South Sudan at risk of further conflict and suffering and undermines the peace agreement’s reform pillars.

However, the SPLM in Opposition Director of Information and Publicity, Mabior Garang, told Eye Radio that Dr Machar will arrive in Juba not later than Monday.
