Libyan coach criticizes unsportsmanlike conduct after Al-Hilal match

The coach of Libyan Al-Ahly Benghazi denounced the unsportsmanlike behaviour of some of his players following their match against Al-Hilal of Sudan at Juba National Stadium.

The incident, which involved two players from Al-Ahly Benghazi, marred what should have been a competitive but respectful encounter on the field

The Serbian coach Arisuf Digan expressed his disappointment with the conduct that led to a post-match altercation, emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of the game.

The coach’s condemnation highlights the importance of maintaining discipline and respect, regardless of the match’s outcome.

The Libyan coach emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism both on and off the pitch.

The match between Libyan Al-Ahly Benghazi and Sudanese Al-Hilal ended in a 1-1 draw at Juba National Stadium.

Al-Ahly took an early lead in the 11th minute with a goal from South Sudanese player John Manu, who scored after a counterattack and a skilful dribble past the goalkeeper.

However, Al-Hilal equalised in the 77th minute through a well-executed free kick by Wali El-Din Khader.

Tensions rose after the equalized, leading to a brief skirmish between the players, which the referee quickly intervened to stop.

Unfortunately, at the final whistle, a more clash erupted among Al-Ahly’s players due to unsportsmanlike behaviour. Although some players and officials attempted to defuse the situation,

it escalated until the stadium security and wise individuals intervened to restore order.

Speaking to the media after the match coach Arisuf Digan said:” I don’t support such behaviour from players it was emotional and not good although it happened but its not good”.

Despite the draw, Al-Hilal of Sudan advanced to the round of 32, marking a significant achievement for the team.

The stadium has been a venue for the South Sudan and Sudan national teams as they participate in the qualifiers for the 2028 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

Additionally, it has hosted matches for clubs such as Al-Merreikh and Jamus from South Sudan, as well as Al-Hilal and Al-Merreikh from Sudan.

Juba National Stadium was reopening on July 11 of this year was a significant event attended by President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The $7.5 million renovation of the stadium with a capacity of 7.500 seats was funded through FIFA’s Forward Program, aimed at supporting football development worldwide.
