Lakes state government says it has formed a committee to resolve inter-communal fighting in the area.

A committee made up of intellectuals and elders from various clans will examine the root causes of communal violence and look at ways to resolve security issues.

Lakes state Caretaker Governor Matur Chut says the committee will address fighting between youths in Rumbek Central County.

“I have forwarded six points to them so that they form a committee that will consult the two sides and come up with proposals to solve the problem. I told them: move as a group to Rub and to Kuei clans so that civilians know that you have united as leaders,” he told Eye Radio from Rumbek.

Mr Chut said youth must concentrate on promoting peace rather than killing one another.
