Lakes govt probes torture of paramount chief by soldiers

The government of Lakes State says it is investigating circumstances leading to the arrest and torture of the paramount chief of Yirol East at a military barrack on Sunday.

The state information minister William Kwoji told Eye Radio that Paramount Chief Andrew Madut Buoi had disagreement with the County Department of Forestry over logging in the area.

But Kwoji wonders why a timber-related dispute ended up at military barrack instead of a police station.

“What cause the issue there to till the matter was taken to the military barrack is what need to be investigated why the chief was also beaten by the soldiers,” he said.

He revealed that the suspect who tortured the paramount chief has been arrested.

“These are the things that need to be investigated so you give us time for investigation to take its course. Of course, the guy [soldier] has been arrested and the investigation has to be carried on as he [chief] take on his treatment at the hospital.”

Chief Andrew Madut Buoi reportedly sustain injuries on the face and is currently receiving treatment at a Hospital in Yirol.
