Lakes burns illicit alcoholic drinks

Author : | Published: Thursday, April 3, 2014

Nearly 50 cartons and 20 Jeri cans of alcoholic drinks have been destroyed in Lakes State on Saturday.

The state Minister of Information, Marik Nanga Marik said these were illicit drinks not allowed in the state.

He said the drinks were found during a gun search exercise in Rumbek town.

Last year, caretaker governor, Matur Chut banned alcohol consumption, saying it was the main course of violence in Lakes State.

Marik Nanga told Eye Radio the drinks were illegally brought in from East Africa.

“The types of alcohols are illicit brews; the content of alcohols is ranging from 75 to 80%,” he said.

“Some of them are manufactured in Uganda in small bottles and some of them are locally brewed here.”

Mr. Marik said the owners of the illicit drinks were not arrested.
