Lack of drugs hinders delivery of health services in Yei

The County commissioner of Yei River County says lack of health facilities and drugs is hindering delivery of health services to the community.

County Commissioner Juma David told Eye Radio that the county health centers have not received any supply of drugs for a year.

David Juma said there has been no supply from either the national or state governments, and that has led to a shortage of basic healthcare in the area.

“We have not received any medical supply from either the state Ministry of Health or the national Ministry of Health for the last year so this scenario has been replicated in the payams. The primary healthcare centers and the primary healthcare units operate on a crisis basis with no basic drugs. If any are available, it is very little. It has been a struggle for us and it still is a struggle and that is why we are bringing it to the attention of everybody that this is becoming a matter of concern but as a commissioner, I am already putting it across that this is becoming a major issue for us to address,” Commissioner Juma said.

The Commissioner said that poor payment has also led to shortage of medical personnel in the county.

He said there are no health workers to treat the increasing number of people living in the area.
