Kiir tasks R-NCRC to expedite permanent constitution making

President Salva Kiir has tasked members of the Reconstituted National Constitutional Review Commission to expedite work on drafting the country’s new permanent constitution, ahead of next year’s general elections.

58 appointed members of the Reconstituted National Constitutional Review Commission tasked to draft the permanent constitution of the Republic of South Sudan were sworn into office on Wednesday in Juba.

The Head of State pledged his commitment to providing adequate support to the Commission to achieve a successful constitutional-making process to pave the way for a new political dispensation, according to the Presidential Press Unit.

Speaking upon their oath-taking, the Chairperson of the National Constitutional Review Commission, Dr. Riang Yer Zuor said “They are ready to guide the entire constitutional-making process.”

Meanwhile, Justice Minister, Ruben Madol Arol reportedly said, ‘The foundation for any nation must be based on constitutionalism, and that public participation is crucial to the process.
