Kiir sacks his executive director Deng Wal

The Executive Director in the Office of the President James Deng Wal was fired by President Salva Kiir on Tuesday.

President Kiir removed Deng, a senior SPLM member through a presidential decree – three years after he replaced Rizik Dominic.

The president then relieved Kiir Yor Lual, the commissioner of Aweil East County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and appointed him the new Executive Director.

Deng was appointed to the position in 2019, in a decree that also appointed other officials including Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin as Special Envoy.

In March 2023, Deng was confirmed to the membership of the SPLM National Liberation Council along with 16 other political figures.
