President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday issued a decree reshuffling several key portfolios in the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU), relieving four ministers and appointing new ones drawn from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–In Opposition (SPLM-IO).
According to the decree read on the South Sudan Broadcast Cooperation, the president relieved Losuba Lodoru Wangu as Minister of Federal Affairs, Martin Gama Abusha as Minister of Mining, Peter Marchello as Minister of Dams, and Aya Benjamin Warile as Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare.
In the same decree, President Kiir appointed Pur Solomon Gok as Minister of Federal Affairs, Losuba Lodoru Wango as Minister of Mining, Agok Makur as Minister of Energy and Dams, and Lona Rodolf as Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare.
The changes affect key ministries under the power-sharing arrangement of the 2018 Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), which established the unity government.
The newly appointed ministers are expected to be sworn in and assume office in the coming days.
Cabinet reshuffles within the unity government have continued as part of ongoing political adjustments amid implementation challenges of the peace agreement and persistent political tensions.
