President Salva Kiir and the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar on Friday resolved to convene another meeting to discuss the recently-contested dismissal of the minister of defense and the transfer of ministries.

The president and his first deputy finally met on Friday to discuss the removal of Angelina Teny and the swapping of the ministries of defense and interior between the SPLM and the SPLM-IO.

A statement from the Office of the President quoted Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin as saying the two principals discussed the status of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in regard to the recent swapping of the ministries.

“Dr. Marial also mentioned that the leaders had frank deliberations in a friendly atmosphere that reflected the spirit of reconciliation, prosperity, and commitment to the peace agreement. ”

The meeting apparently ended without a consensus, as the statement said the two leaders plan to meet at another date.

“The two Principals agreed in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation to convene another meeting at a later date to find amicable solutions on these issues.”

President Salva Kiir fired Defense Minister Angelina Teny and Interior Minister Mahamoud Solomon through a Republican Decree read on the national television SSBC.

The president also swapped two ministries, the Ministry of Defence to the SPLM party and the Ministry of Interior to SPLM-IO through a similar Presidential decree.

However, the SPLM-IO has protested the move that it was not consulted.
